NSCCC organises climate change awareness programme
2nd edition of climate change awareness programme for students (C- CAPS) was held at Northfield, Kohima on March 7, organised by Nagaland State Climate Cell (NSCCC) under Nagaland Science & Technology Council (NASTEC), department of Science & Technology and department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Nagaland supported by National bank for agriculture and rural development (NABARD).
A press release by NASTEC stated that, special guest Supongnukshi, chief conservator of forests (CCF) and state nodal officer for climate change gave an overview of the State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC) and interacted with the participants.
He held that climate change has become a reality and stressed on the need for a concentrated effort to create awareness among all sections of the society, to adapt to climate change thereby overcoming its challenges.
Earlier, the programme began with a brief introduction of NSCCC with power point presentation on basic climate science. Hands on activities to understand climate change and its effects were undertaken by participants followed by group presentations based on the activity. A short documentary on the topic was also screened.
Meanwhile, participants were inducted into the climate ambassador’s programme of NSCCC where inductees were given official badges and a pledge based on four major points i.e. remain optimistic, learn more on climate action, share knowledge experience and ideas and collaborate: organise into communities. Altogether, seven schools from Kohima attended the awareness programme.
